ISLAMABAD: Reports of a possible wedding involving Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari have sparked speculation on social media, with claims circulating about a possible engagement and wedding later this year.

According to unverified reports, President Asif Ali Zardari had travelled to the country with other family members to discuss and finalise a date for his son’s wedding.

The reports further claimed that Bilawal’s wedding could take place towards the end of this year and that his purported fiancée was from Vaduz, the capital of Liechtenstein.

However, the PPP has rejected the claims.

Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab, who also serves as a spokesperson for Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, said on social media that reports regarding the PPP chairman’s engagement or marriage were “incorrect and unfounded”.

There has been no official announcement from Bilawal Bhutto Zardari or his family confirming an engagement or wedding, meaning the reports remain unverified.

Liechtenstein is a small sovereign state in Western Europe located between Switzerland and Austria, with Vaduz serving as its political and administrative capital.

Bilawal has previously spoken publicly about marriage but has not disclosed details regarding a potential spouse or wedding date.

During the 77th session of the United Nations General Assembly in 2022, a journalist asked Bilawal about his marriage plans. Smiling, the then foreign minister replied that he did have plans to marry but did not provide a timeframe for tying the knot.

Bilawal had also spoken about marriage in 2016, saying that his future bride would first have to win over the hearts of his sisters.

He had remarked that the right candidate would have to take his sisters into confidence, adding that winning their hearts would be a difficult task for any prospective bride.

Despite the renewed speculation on social media, no official confirmation of an engagement or wedding has been issued by Bilawal or his family.
