To secure their spot in the Women’s T20 Asia Cup 2024 final, Sri Lanka defeated Pakistan by three wickets in a thrilling encounter at the Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium on Friday

The hosts chased down a target of 141 runs in the final over, thanks to a brilliant captain’s knock from Chamari Athapaththu and a vital contribution from Anushka Sanjeewani.

Athapaththu’s 63 off 48 balls, including ten boundaries, anchored the Sri Lankan innings, while Sanjeewani’s 24 runs helped The Islanders reach the target with just one ball to spare.

A decisive wide delivery bowled by Pakistan’s captain Nida Dar in the final over sealed the victory for Sri Lanka.

Sadia Iqbal was the standout bowler for Pakistan, claiming four wickets, while Nida Dar and Omaima Sohail picked up one wicket each.

Earlier, Pakistan opted to bat first and put up a competitive total of 141 runs, thanks to contributions from Gull Feroza, Muneeba Ali, Nida Dar, Fatima Sana, and Aliya Riaz.

Sri Lanka will now face India in the final on July 28 in Dambulla, setting the stage for an exciting conclusion to the Women’s Asia Cup.
