Pakistani mountaineer Sarbaz Khan has made history by becoming the first from his country to summit all 14 of the world’s 8,000-meter peaks without supplemental oxygen.

Khan completed his extraordinary feat by conquering the 8,586-meter Kanchenjunga, his final challenge in the “Eight-Thousanders” series.

This achievement comes just one year after he had climbed all 14 peaks with oxygen support on two initial ascents.

“Anapurna and Kanchenjunga were the remaining peaks I needed to summit without oxygen to make this record complete,” Khan said in a statement.

The mountaineer had previously used oxygen during his first two climbs but successfully scaled both Anapurna last month and Kanchenjunga this week in pure alpine style.

Khan’s accomplishment places him among an elite group of mountaineers worldwide who have achieved this oxygen-free challenge.
