Ethiopian Air Chief Calls on PAF Chief in Islamabad

Both sides vow to deepen cooperation through training, capacity building, and technology transfer

ISLAMABAD: Lieutenant General Yilma Merdassa, Commander of the Ethiopian Air Force, met Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Baber Sidhu, Chief of the Air Staff, at PAF Air Headquarters on Wednesday, where the two sides discussed areas of professional interest and pledged to enhance bilateral cooperation.

On arrival, the visiting dignitary was presented with a Guard of Honour by a contingent of the Pakistan Air Force (PAF).

During the meeting, Air Chief Marshal Sidhu reaffirmed PAF’s commitment to strengthening military partnership through joint training initiatives and assured his counterpart of comprehensive support in capacity building, advanced training, and operational domains. He underlined that Pakistan values its cordial ties with Ethiopia and remains committed to expanding defence cooperation.

Ethiopian interest in PAF’s combat experience

Lt Gen Merdassa expressed gratitude for the warm reception and lauded PAF’s operational readiness, multi-domain capabilities, and deterrence posture. He noted that the Ethiopian Air Force sought to benefit from PAF’s combat experience, integrated command systems, and technological innovations to enhance its own capabilities.

The Ethiopian commander also voiced interest in exploring technology transfer and indigenous aviation development, particularly in modernization initiatives.

Briefings on ISR and cyber capabilities

As part of his visit, Lt Gen Merdassa received detailed briefings at the National ISR & Integrated Air Operations Centre and PAF Cyber Command. He appreciated PAF’s integration of cutting-edge technologies in modern warfare and its progress in strengthening cyber and intelligence-led operations.
