The achievement was announced by Jawad Sharif Films on Instagram, with the team celebrating the historic win.

“Wow.. Wow.. Our film Moklani has become the first-ever Pakistani Feature Film Winner at the 2025 Jackson Wild Media Awards,” the post read. “We dedicate this award to the Mohana fisherfolk, to Pakistan, and to all indigenous communities whose stories, struggles, and wisdom inspire us to keep telling the stories that matter.”

The documentary tells the story of the Mohana community of Manchar Lake — one of Pakistan’s oldest indigenous fishing groups — whose centuries-old way of life is under threat due to environmental degradation and the climate crisis.

Backed by the National Geographic Society and Climate Kahani, the film combines powerful storytelling with visually striking cinematography, offering a poignant look at a culture on the brink of extinction.

The filmmakers said the Mohanas’ struggle is a reflection of the broader climate challenges facing Pakistan today.
