ISLAMABAD: At least seven people, including some students, were injured on Tuesday after a gas leak triggered an explosion at the National University of Modern Languages (NUML) in Islamabad’s H-9 Sector.

The injured individuals were shifted to a nearby hospital for medical treatment. According to initial reports, the gas leak sparked a fire, prompting rescue teams and fire tenders to reach the site and bring the flames under control.

The identities of the injured had not been confirmed immediately. The explosion occurred at Block 131 near Gate No. 3 of the university campus. Emergency services rushed to the scene shortly after the blast.

Authorities later confirmed that the incident was caused by a gas cylinder explosion, and rescue workers quickly secured the area. Details regarding the extent of injuries or property damage are still being verified, and further updates are expected as the investigation progresses.

Founded in 1969, NUML began as an institute focused on teaching modern languages, initially serving personnel of the armed forces and other government departments through specialised language training. In May 2000, it received a federal charter and was upgraded to a full-fledged university.
