John Cena bids farewell to wrestling after final match loss to Gunther
Veteran wrestler and WWE icon John Cena brought his in-ring career to an end after losing his final match to Gunther at Saturday Night’s Main Event at Capital One Arena.
The 17-time world champion put on a fiercely competitive performance, trading momentum with Gunther throughout the bout. Cena delivered three Attitude Adjustments — including a dramatic top-rope version — and sent his opponent through the announce table, but was unable to secure a pinfall.
Gunther ultimately achieved his stated goal for the match, forcing John Cena to submit to a sleeper hold after multiple escape attempts, sealing the final victory of Cena’s storied career.
The event was presented as a major WWE spectacle, with several wrestling legends and celebrities in attendance. Kurt Angle, Rob Van Dam, Trish Stratus, Eve Torres and others were shown seated ringside, while tribute videos featured The Undertaker, The Rock, and sports stars including Tom Brady and Jalen Brunson.
Gunther entered first, followed by a thunderous ovation for Cena. Notably, the familiar “Cena sucks” chant was absent, replaced entirely by cheers of support. Cena briefly picked up a camera to film himself before rushing to the ring and greeting the legends at ringside.

After the match, an emotional Cena addressed the crowd with a short message, saying: “That’s all I’ve got.”
The locker room then emptied as wrestlers surrounded the ring. CM Punk and Cody Rhodes joined Cena and placed their championship belts on his shoulders as the crowd chanted, “Thank you, Cena.” He later shared an embrace with Triple H before a final tribute video aired.
Cena then walked up the entrance ramp, saluted the fans, and exited the arena for the final time, bringing an end to one of wrestling’s most celebrated careers.
