Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz senior leader Sheikh Rohale Asghar has confirmed that his long-standing friendship with Nawaz Sharif’s family is set to turn into a family relationship, putting an end to weeks of speculation.

Speaking about the reports, Rohale Asghar said that Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz’s son, Junaid Safdar, is set to marry his granddaughter. He confirmed that the wedding ceremonies will take place on January 16, 17 and 18.

Asghar said he accepted the proposal after finding Nawaz Sharif’s family, including Maryam Nawaz, to be extremely kind and respectful. He added that Maryam Nawaz’s daughter Mahnoor and his granddaughter Shanzay have shared a long-standing friendship, which brought the two families closer.

Sharing details, Asghar said that Shanzay’s father had a telephone conversation with Nawaz Sharif, during which the former prime minister discussed his grandson’s wedding proposal. “When my son informed me, I told him it was a blessing that our daughter would marry into such a prominent family,” he said, adding that all matters were finalised within two to three months.

He said both families later invited each other and proceeded with the arrangements. According to Asghar, the wedding events will be held in a close, family-only gathering. He added that except for the Barat ceremony, all other events will be hosted at Jati Umra, the Sharif family’s residence.
