ADB, CDA review Islamabad Inter-City Bus Terminal project

ISLAMABAD: Chairman Capital Development Authority and Chief Commissioner Islamabad Muhammad Ali Randhawa on Tuesday held a meeting with a delegation of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) to review progress on the Islamabad Inter-City Bus Terminal project, with discussions focusing on feasibility, financing and integration with the city’s transport network.

The meeting, held at CDA Headquarters, was attended by CDA Board Member Engineering Syed Nafasat Raza, Member Finance Tahir Naeem, Director General Resource and other senior officials. ADB consultants briefed participants on the project, informing that the initial feasibility report for the Inter-City Bus Terminal has been completed.

During the briefing, it was shared that the Asian Development Bank is developing an optimal financial model for the project, which will be interlinked with Islamabad’s Metro Bus and Electric Feeder Bus services to ensure seamless connectivity. The project will also include modern electric vehicle charging stations as part of efforts to promote environmentally friendly transport.

The meeting was further informed that ADB is providing technical assistance for the preparation of the Islamabad Transport Master Plan, aimed at improving urban mobility and long-term transport planning in the federal capital.

Speaking on the occasion, Chairman CDA Muhammad Ali Randhawa said the authority was utilising all available resources to provide citizens with efficient, modern and eco-friendly travel facilities. He urged ADB to also extend technical support for securing carbon credits for environmentally sustainable projects.

Randhawa said the completion of the Inter-City Bus Terminal would significantly reduce traffic pressure on Islamabad’s highways and improve overall traffic management in the city. The meeting reaffirmed the commitment of both sides to fully utilise ADB’s technical expertise and experience to ensure the successful implementation of the project.
