KARACHI: Former Pakistan captain Shoaib Malik on Tuesday announced his retirement from the Pakistan Super League (PSL), bringing an end to a decade-long playing career in the country’s marquee T20 tournament.

In a post shared on Instagram, Malik said he cherished every moment of his PSL journey and the friendships he made on and off the field. “It’s time to call it a day,” he wrote, while adding that his passion and motivation to serve the betterment of cricket would always remain.

Malik featured in the PSL for 10 seasons, representing Karachi Kings, Multan Sultans, Peshawar Zalmi and Quetta Gladiators. He played a total of 93 matches in the league, scoring 2,350 runs at an average of 33.09 and a strike rate of 127.78, including 15 half-centuries.

His decision comes at a time when the PSL is entering a new phase, with the addition of two new teams — Hyderabad and Sialkot — following a star-studded auction held earlier this month.

The 11th edition of the Pakistan Super League is scheduled to run from March 26 to May 3, featuring eight teams, with defending champions Lahore Qalandars set to defend their title.
