Turkish military chief meets Pakistan COAS at GHQ

Leaders discuss regional security, defence cooperation and strategic partnership

RAWALPINDI: Chief of the Turkish General Staff Selcuk Bayraktaroglu called on Pakistan’s army chief Asim Munir at General Headquarters on Friday, according to a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations.

Upon his arrival at GHQ, Bayraktaroglu was presented with a guard of honour by a contingent of the Pakistan Armed Forces.

During the meeting, both sides discussed matters of mutual interest, the prevailing regional and global security environment, and prospects for further strengthening bilateral defence and military cooperation.

The two leaders expressed satisfaction with the current trajectory of Pakistan-Türkiye relations and emphasised the need for close coordination and enhanced defence collaboration.

Asim Munir highlighted the longstanding brotherly relationship between Pakistan and Türkiye, rooted in shared history, mutual trust and strong people-to-people ties. He appreciated the continued support and cooperation of the Turkish Armed Forces and reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to strengthening military-to-military relations.

Bayraktaroglu thanked the Pakistan Army for the warm reception and praised its professionalism. He reaffirmed Türkiye’s resolve to deepen defence cooperation, including training programmes, joint exercises and capacity-building initiatives.

The visit reflects the enduring strategic partnership between Pakistan and Türkiye and their shared commitment to regional peace, stability and security.
