KMC opposition announces no-confidence move against Karachi mayor
KARACHI: The opposition leader in the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) on Friday announced a no-confidence motion against Mayor Murtaza Wahab, accusing the city administration of failing to protect citizens amid a series of deadly incidents across the metropolis.
Addressing a press conference, Jamaat-e-Islami Karachi Naib Emir Saifuddin Advocate said the city had been in mourning since the Gul Plaza tragedy, which claimed dozens of lives and destroyed the livelihoods of hundreds.
He said repeated incidents had left citizens feeling abandoned, with no authority willing to take responsibility. Saifuddin cited deaths caused by water tanker accidents, dog bites and robberies, saying people were dying on a daily basis due to administrative failures.
The KMC opposition leader alleged that criminal elements had overwhelmed the city, adding that government officials appeared to believe governance was limited to holding meetings.
He said true governance would be reflected when institutions performed their duties fully and on time.
Saifuddin also held Karachi Commissioner Syed Hassan Naqvi responsible for negligence, stating that institutional failures and mismanagement in the city had already been pointed out by Jamaat-e-Islami chief Hafiz Naeemur Rehman.

“We have already said that all institutions in Karachi have collapsed, but the government refuses to accept this reality,” he said.
He further alleged that the Sindh government wanted all institutions in Karachi to function under its direct control.
Referring to the recent report on the Gul Plaza fire, Saifuddin said the document merely outlined a sequence of events and prevailing conditions, without fixing responsibility or addressing the underlying causes of the tragedy.
