RAWALPINDI: Commander-in-Chief of the Libyan Arab Armed Forces Khalifa Abu-al-Qasim Haftar, along with Deputy Commander Saddam Khalifa Haftar, called on Chief of Defence Staff Asim Munir at General Headquarters on Monday, the Inter-Services Public Relations said in a statement.

According to the military’s media wing, the meeting involved an exchange of views on matters of mutual interest, with particular emphasis on regional security dynamics and avenues for professional cooperation.

The discussion highlighted the importance of continued engagement and collaboration between the armed forces of Pakistan and Libya, the ISPR said.

Asim Munir welcomed the visiting delegation and reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to strengthening bilateral relations with Libya. He underscored Pakistan’s support for peace, stability and institutional development in Libya.

The ISPR said the meeting was held in a cordial and constructive atmosphere, reflecting the longstanding friendly relations between the two countries.

Earlier, upon arrival at Noor Khan Airbase, Khalifa Haftar was received by Asim Munir. The Libyan military chief was also accorded a guard of honour, paid homage to the martyrs and laid a wreath at the martyrs’ memorial at GHQ.

In December, Pakistan signed a multi-billion-dollar agreement to sell conventional military equipment to Libya, according to Reuters.

The latest engagement follows a meeting held in December last year between Asim Munir and Khalifa Haftar, during which matters of mutual interest, regional security and prospects for enhanced defence and military-to-military cooperation were discussed. Deputy Commander Saddam Khalifa Haftar was also present on that occasion.
