LAKKI MARWAT: Security forces killed five terrorists during an intelligence-based operation in Lakki Marwat, according to a statement issued by Inter-Services Public Relations on Sunday.

The military’s media wing said the operation was conducted on March 15 after reports about the presence of militants in the area.

“During the conduct of the operation, our troops effectively engaged the khawarij location and after an intense fire exchange, five khawarij were sent to hell,” the statement said.

Security forces also recovered weapons and ammunition from the killed militants, who were reportedly involved in multiple terrorist activities in the region.

Following the operation, troops launched a sanitisation operation to eliminate any remaining militants in the area.

The military reaffirmed that the counterterrorism campaign under Operation Azm-e-Istehkam would continue at full pace to eliminate foreign-sponsored terrorism from Pakistan.

Since the Taliban returned to power in Afghanistan in 2021, Pakistan has witnessed a rise in cross-border militant activity, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan.

In response to the surge in attacks, Pakistan launched Operation Ghazab lil-Haq targeting militant hideouts along the border.

According to Information Minister Attaullah Tarar, around 684 Afghan Taliban operatives and affiliated militants have been killed during the operation, while more than 900 have been injured and 252 militant checkposts destroyed.

Border clashes between Pakistani forces and militants in October 2025 also resulted in the killing of more than 200 Taliban and affiliated fighters, while 23 Pakistani soldiers were martyred defending the country.
