Ronnie O’Sullivan makes history with record 153 break at World Open
YUSHAN: Seven-time world champion Ronnie O’Sullivan created snooker history on Friday by recording the highest-ever break of 153 during the World Open in China.
The 50-year-old Englishman achieved the remarkable feat against Ryan Day in a commanding 5-0 victory to book his place in the semi-finals of the tournament.
Widely regarded as the greatest player in the sport’s history, O’Sullivan capitalised on a free ball opportunity, starting with the green before compiling a stunning break that included 15 reds, 13 blacks, two pinks and a flawless clearance of the colours.
The record-breaking effort surpasses the previous highest break of 148 set by Jamie Burnett in 2004.
Ronnie O’Sullivan, nicknamed “The Rocket”, celebrated the achievement with a smile and a thumbs-up to the crowd, who responded with loud applause.
