Tezgam Express derailment near Lodhran injures 25, disrupts rail traffic
LODHRAN: A late-night derailment of the Tezgam Express near Adam Wahan left at least 25 passengers injured and severely disrupted rail traffic, officials said on Wednesday.
According to Pakistan Railways authorities, the Karachi-bound Tezgam train had departed from Samasata Junction with additional coaches when a coupling hook broke near Adam Wahan, splitting the train into two parts.
At least four bogies, including a dining car, derailed, with some overturning and triggering panic among passengers in the dark as they scrambled to safety.
Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Ashraf said 25 passengers were injured in the incident. Of them, 17 were treated and discharged after first aid, while eight critically injured were shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital.
Eyewitnesses said passengers remained stranded for hours as rescue efforts continued through the night. Authorities moved affected passengers to a nearby school, while additional arrangements were made at the Circuit House, where food and basic facilities were provided.
Railway officials said a reduced train comprising five coaches was later dispatched to Karachi, while work to clear the damaged track continued. Rescue teams, medical staff, heavy machinery and Rescue 1122 personnel took part in evacuation and relief operations.

Officials confirmed there was no loss of life, but train services on the down track remained suspended, with several Karachi-bound trains halted at Lodhran station.
Federal Minister for Railways Muhammad Hanif Abbasi has ordered an inquiry to determine the cause of the derailment as restoration efforts continue.
The incident adds to a series of railway accidents in recent years, raising concerns over ageing infrastructure and the need for urgent upgrades to ensure passenger safety.
