Gas supply disrupted in Quetta after pipeline blast
QUETTA: Gas supply to several areas of Quetta and other districts of Balochistan remained suspended after unknown armed men blew up a main gas pipeline in the Western Bypass area of the provincial capital.
A spokesperson for Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) confirmed that an 18-inch diameter main pipeline was targeted in Akhtarabad, located on the outskirts of the city.
The explosion triggered a fire and disrupted gas supply to multiple areas, with authorities saying a significant portion of the pipeline was destroyed in the blast.
According to SSGC, gas supply has been affected in several localities of Quetta, including Hazara Town, Hazarganji, Khaizi and Nohsar.

The disruption has also impacted surrounding districts such as Pishin, Ziarat, Kalat, Mastung and Kuchlak.
SSGC officials said engineers and technical teams reached the site to assess the damage, adding that repair work would begin after security clearance. Replacement pipes will be transported from Karachi for the restoration process.
A heavy contingent of security forces has been deployed at gas installations in Quetta following the incident.
Authorities have advised residents to arrange alternative fuel sources for the next one to two days until gas supply is restored.
