ISLAMABAD: Pakistan on Tuesday reaffirmed its unwavering support for Saudi Arabia following recent attacks on the kingdom’s energy infrastructure by Iran.

In a statement, Foreign Office of Pakistan spokesperson Tahir Andrabi denounced the attacks as a “serious violation” of Saudi Arabia’s territorial integrity and a “dangerous escalation” in the ongoing Middle East conflict.

The attacks targeted a petrochemical complex in the eastern city of Jubail, coming hours after similar strikes on energy installations in Iran, a witness told AFP. The FO expressed “deep concern” over the missile and drone attacks and mourned the loss of life, offering condolences to the families of the victims.

Pakistan strongly deplored the damage inflicted on critical infrastructure and reiterated its solidarity with the Saudi government and people during the crisis. The FO highlighted that such attacks undermine regional peace and stability.

The statement came amid ongoing tensions in the Gulf region, which began after US-Israeli strikes on Iran on February 28. The conflict has disrupted global energy markets, with Iran effectively blocking the Strait of Hormuz and targeting energy facilities across the Gulf.

The latest strike follows Tehran’s warning two weeks ago that it would retaliate against energy and water infrastructure in the Gulf if attacks were carried out on Iranian power plants. Iranian military spokesman Ebrahim Zolfaqari and Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf had both warned that critical energy infrastructure across the region could be “irreversibly destroyed” if Iranian facilities were targeted.
