Punjab announces summer vacations from May 22
LAHORE: Punjab Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat on Monday announced the summer vacations schedule for educational institutions across the province.
In a statement, the provincial minister said that summer vacations would begin on May 22.
He added that the holidays would continue until August 23, giving students and teachers more than three months off.
The announcement comes amid an intense heat spell affecting several parts of the country, with temperatures expected to remain unusually high in the coming weeks.
Last week, the Punjab Disaster Management Authority warned of above-normal temperatures and rainfall across Punjab until July.

Meanwhile, the Pakistan Meteorological Department cautioned that heatwaves, flash floods, urban flooding and windstorms could impact various regions during the coming months.
The weather department also warned that rising temperatures may trigger strong winds, dust storms and hailstorms, potentially damaging seasonal crops, vegetables and orchards.
Last year, the Punjab government had announced summer vacations from May 28 to August 14. However, the holidays for all public and private schools were later extended until August 31 due to extreme weather conditions across the province.
