KARACHI: A local court in Karachi on Wednesday approved a three-day physical remand of a high-profile woman alleged drug peddler, Anmol alias Pinky, in a case registered by Karachi South Police.

The police approached the court a day after an earlier request for her physical remand had been rejected, following which the suspect was sent to jail on judicial remand.

According to the remand report submitted by investigators, police sought custody of the suspect to trace the source of the cocaine supply, determine her financial resources and conduct a Criminal Record Office (CRO) check.

During Wednesday’s hearing, the investigating officer again requested physical remand in the case registered against Pinky.

Officials said the suspect, arrested from Karachi’s Garden area, had been absconding in at least 10 different cases and was considered a highly wanted suspect by police.

Police further claimed that weapons, cocaine and other narcotics worth around Rs1.5 million were recovered from her possession. Investigators alleged that she had been operating a drug supply network in the port city.

Separately, investigators also recovered multiple audio recordings from the suspect’s mobile phone.

In one alleged voice note, Pinky is heard warning her contacts about the possibility of arrest and indicating that her operations would continue through another individual if anything happened to her.

“Hi friends! If you are listening to this message, it means either something has happened to me or I am no longer alive,” she allegedly said in the recording.

“The contact person will be a man, my friend, who will handle the work. If something happens to me, the work will continue through the same number,” the message added.

In a separate development, the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) South was removed from the inquiry and replaced by DIG West Irfan Baloch, according to an official notification.

DIG West Irfan Baloch has been tasked with investigating all matters that emerged during Pinky’s court appearance on Tuesday, including alleged protocol violations.

Authorities directed the DIG West to submit a report within three days, while the Additional IG stated that strict action would be taken against any officers or officials found guilty of negligence or misconduct.
