Balochistan CM announces civil award for hospital employee who rescued acid attack victim
QUETTA: Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti on Sunday announced a civil award for Abdul Razzaq Tarakai, a Civil Hospital Quetta employee who rushed to help a female doctor following an acid attack at the medical facility.
In a post on X, the chief minister described Tarakai as a “precious asset to society” and praised his courage and sense of duty for assisting Dr Mahnoor Nisar despite the risk to his own life.
“A civil award will be conferred upon Abdul Razzaq Tarakai, an employee of Civil Hospital Quetta, who displayed extraordinary courage, humanity and dedication to duty by providing immediate assistance during the tragic acid attack incident on Lady Doctor Mahnoor Nisar,” Bugti said.
The incident occurred on Saturday when Dr Mahnoor Nisar was attacked with acid inside Civil Hospital Quetta. She was initially shifted to a private hospital in Quetta before being airlifted to Karachi for specialised treatment.
According to hospital sources, the doctor remains in stable condition after undergoing assessment by reconstructive surgeons and eye specialists.

She sustained burn injuries to her face, abdomen, legs and right hand, covering around 13 per cent of her body. Although her eyes were affected in the attack, doctors confirmed that her eyesight remains intact and that she is out of danger.
Police said the suspect involved in the attack was later killed during an encounter while authorities were attempting to arrest him.
Chief Minister Bugti also spoke to Tarakai by telephone and commended his bravery, telling him that he had served humanity without concern for his own safety.
The chief minister assured the hospital employee that the provincial government would bear all of his medical expenses and, if necessary, arrange treatment at the country’s best healthcare facilities.
Bugti reiterated the government’s commitment to recognising and supporting individuals who display exceptional courage and selflessness in the service of others.
