Regional Four Foreign Ministers Review Islamabad MoU at Cairo Meeting

Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Türkiye and Egypt reaffirm commitment to diplomacy, regional cooperation and collective solutions to shared challenges

CAIRO: Foreign ministers from Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Türkiye and Egypt met in Cairo on Sunday to review regional developments and assess progress on the implementation of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), underscoring their commitment to diplomacy and regional cooperation.

According to Pakistan’s Foreign Office, the meeting was held in a restricted format and focused on key regional issues, implementation mechanisms for the Islamabad MoU, and areas of practical cooperation among the four countries.

Foreign Office spokesperson Tahir Andrabi said the ministers reaffirmed their shared commitment to dialogue, diplomacy and regional ownership in addressing common challenges facing the region.

He noted that Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Türkiye and Egypt remain committed to strengthening cooperation aimed at promoting peace, stability and greater regional connectivity.

Separately, Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar confirmed his participation in the fourth meeting of the Regional Four (R-4) Foreign Ministers.

Dar said the ministers reviewed progress made under the Islamabad MoU and exchanged views on major regional and international developments. He added that the participants reiterated their support for diplomatic engagement and collective efforts to promote peace, stability and economic prosperity.

The discussions also focused on enhancing coordination among the four countries and expanding practical cooperation under the R-4 framework to address shared political, economic and security challenges.

On the sidelines of the meeting, Dar held talks with Abdel Fattah el-Sisi. The two leaders discussed bilateral relations between Pakistan and Egypt, as well as opportunities for deeper cooperation through the R-4 platform.

Officials said the Cairo meeting reflected the growing importance of the Regional Four mechanism as a forum for consultation and coordination on regional affairs. The participating countries emphasized the need for continued diplomatic engagement and collaborative approaches to address emerging challenges across the broader region.

A joint statement was issued at the conclusion of the meeting, reaffirming the members’ commitment to dialogue, cooperation and the peaceful resolution of regional issues.
