Pakistan wins three bronze medals at International Physics Olympiad

Pakistani students secure honours at global competition held in Colombia with participation from over 90 countries.

ISLAMABAD: Pakistani students won three bronze medals at the 56th International Physics Olympiad (IPhO), held from July 4 to 12 in Bucaramanga, Colombia, according to the Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission (PAEC).

More than 400 students from over 90 countries participated in the prestigious international competition.

The bronze medals were won by Zulfiqar Ali, Hamdan Alvi and Daniyal Shehzad Hamid, while Heza Mahmood from Lahore and Abdullah Ejaz from Rawalpindi received honourable mentions for their performances.

The Pakistani team was selected through the National Science Talent Contest, jointly organised by the Higher Education Commission (HEC) and the Pakistan Institute of Engineering and Applied Sciences (PIEAS).

Following a rigorous selection process, the students underwent intensive theoretical and experimental training at the PIEAS campus under the supervision of national and international experts.

The Pakistani delegation was led by PIEAS professors Muhammad Irfan and Muhammad Waseem during the International Physics Olympiad.
