ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister’s Special Assistant Huzaifa Rehman on Wednesday expressed disappointment over JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman’s remarks regarding the security forces, saying the statement was deeply hurtful and should have been made with greater responsibility.

The controversy arose after Fazlur Rehman, while addressing a public rally in Kasur, commented on the security situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan. He said that while the sacrifices of security personnel are frequently highlighted, they are also paid salaries for performing their duties.

Responding to the remarks, Huzaifa Rehman said statements from a senior political leader carried significant weight and required careful consideration, particularly on issues related to national security.

He alleged that Indian media had used Fazlur Rehman’s remarks for propaganda against Pakistan and urged the JUI-F chief to apologise, stressing that responsible political discourse was essential on sensitive national matters.

Earlier, Defence Minister Khawaja Asif also criticised the statement, describing it as “unfair.”

He said he expected a seasoned politician like Maulana Fazlur Rehman to exercise greater caution in choosing his words while commenting on matters concerning the country’s security forces.
