Massive crowd gathers at Islamabad’s D-Chowk for FIFA World Cup final screening
ISLAMABAD: Thousands of football fans gathered at Islamabad’s D-Chowk on Sunday to watch the FIFA World Cup 2026 final between Spain and Argentina on a giant public screen arranged by the government.
Supporters from across the capital and surrounding areas filled the venue, creating a festive atmosphere as they prepared to witness the tournament’s biggest match. Fans wearing Argentina’s sky-blue and white jerseys chanted Lionel Messi’s name, while Spain supporters rallied behind young star Lamine Yamal.
The public screening attracted football enthusiasts of all ages, with families and groups of friends joining the celebrations ahead of the highly anticipated final.
Deputy Commissioner Islamabad also welcomed the large turnout, saying on social media that the response from football fans had been overwhelming and inviting more people to join the live screening at D-Chowk.
Fans praised the vibrant atmosphere, describing the event as a unique opportunity to celebrate football together in the capital.
Meanwhile, interest in the tournament extended beyond the final itself, with France’s Kylian Mbappé leading the race for the Golden Boot after taking his tally to 10 goals with a brace in the third-place play-off against England.
The World Cup final also featured Lionel Messi’s bid to guide defending champions Argentina to another title against an unbeaten Spain side seeking to reclaim football’s biggest prize.
