Petrol pump dealers call off strike after successful talks with government

ISLAMABAD: The planned nationwide protest by petrol pump dealers, which was due to begin from Tuesday night, was called off after the federal government agreed to address the dealers’ key concerns within two weeks following successful negotiations.

The development came after a meeting in Islamabad between Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik and representatives of the Pakistan Petroleum Dealers Association, where both sides agreed to resolve outstanding issues through mutual consultation.

Speaking at a joint media briefing, the petroleum minister assured dealers that the government would make efforts to provide them with their due rights, which have remained pending since 2022.

Ali Pervaiz Malik said the government was committed to bridging differences with petroleum dealers and creating a conducive environment for smooth business operations across the country.

Following the assurances, the association announced the suspension of its planned strike and agreed to continue dialogue with the government to resolve remaining issues.

Both sides agreed that negotiations would remain the preferred mechanism for addressing the concerns of petrol pump dealers and ensuring uninterrupted fuel supply nationwide.
