Marc Cucurella honours World Cup promise with tattoo of Spain coach

WEB DESK: Spain defender Marc Cucurella has fulfilled an unusual promise by getting a tattoo of national team coach Luis de la Fuente’s face after La Roja lifted the FIFA World Cup trophy.

The 28-year-old had vowed to tattoo his coach’s portrait on his body if Spain won the World Cup. Following Spain’s victory over Argentina in the final, De la Fuente jokingly reminded Cucurella that he was expecting him to honour the pledge.

On Tuesday, the Chelsea defender kept his word by getting a tattoo on his left arm depicting De la Fuente holding the FIFA World Cup trophy.

“Promise fulfilled,” Cucurella wrote on Instagram while sharing videos of the tattoo session with his followers.

Cucurella enjoyed an outstanding tournament, featuring in all eight of Spain’s matches and playing a crucial role in the team’s defensive success as La Roja kept seven clean sheets on their way to lifting the trophy.

The defender also carried his wife’s pyjama top throughout the tournament as a personal lucky charm, a ritual he maintained during Spain’s successful World Cup campaign.
