Gold prices in Pakistan saw a significant surge on Friday, with 24 karat gold reaching Rs. 245,000 per tola, up from Rs. 242,500 on the previous trading day.

This represents a increase of Rs. 2,500 per tola.

International Market

Gold prices in the international market also saw an increase, rising by $21 to $2,343 per ounce.

Context

The surge in gold prices comes as Pakistan’s foreign exchange reserves held by the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) decreased by US$ 74 million to US$ 7,981.2 million due to external debt repayments.

The total liquid foreign reserves held by the country stand at US$ 13,280.5 million as of April 19, 2024.
