Muttahida Nanbai Roti Association of Punjab has issued a resolute opposition, sparking tensions between the Punjab government and tandoor shop owners.

Following the Punjab government’s mandate to cap the price of roti at Rs 16, the Nanbai Association has escalated the confrontation by issuing a 96-hour ultimatum, demanding a reduction in the cost of flour to facilitate compliance with the new pricing regulations.

Expressing vehement dissatisfaction with the crackdown on tandoor shops, the Nanbai Association has articulated its demand for fixing the price of a 20kg bag of flour at Rs 1600, asserting that only with this adjustment can roti be feasibly sold at the mandated price.

Moreover, in a bid to address the broader concerns of affordability, the Association has proposed that the price of a 20kg bag of fine flour be set at Rs 7,500, enabling the sale of naan at Rs 20.

The Association’s ultimatum is accompanied by a stern warning of a province-wide strike should their demands remain unmet, intensifying the standoff between the government and naanbai shop owners.
