PM Shehbaz Meets IMF Chief At World Economic Forum
Prime Minister (PM) Shehbaz Sharif met with International Monetary Fund (IMF) Chief Kristalina Georgieva on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum Special Meeting, reaffirming his government’s dedication to putting Pakistan’s economy back on track.
Commitment to Structural Reforms and Fiscal Discipline
The Prime Minister emphasized his government’s commitment to implementing structural reforms, maintaining strict fiscal discipline, and pursuing prudent policies to ensure macro-economic stability and sustained economic growth.
He expressed gratitude to Georgieva for supporting Pakistan in securing a $3 billion Standby Arrangement (SBA) from the IMF last year, which is nearing completion.

IMF Executive Board to Meet on April 29
The IMF Executive Board is scheduled to meet on April 29 to decide on the final tranche of $1.1 billion under the SBA. Georgieva praised the Prime Minister’s leadership in securing the SBA last year.
Discussions on Future IMF Program
Both sides discussed the possibility of Pakistan entering into another IMF program to consolidate the gains made in the past year and maintain a positive economic growth trajectory.
The IMF MD shared her institution’s perspective on the ongoing program, including the review process.

Invitation to Visit Pakistan
The PM Shehbaz extended an invitation to the IMF Chief to visit Pakistan at her convenience, marking the first meeting between the two since his re-election.
They last met in Paris in June 2023 on the margins of the Summit for New Global Financial Pact.
