ISLAMABAD: JD Vance has emerged as one of the most influential and polarising figures in American politics, combining a compelling personal story with a rapid rise to power and an expanding global role.

Born in Middletown, Ohio, Vance frequently draws on his working-class upbringing — shaped largely by his grandmother — to connect with voters and reinforce his populist image. He first gained national recognition through his memoir Hillbilly Elegy, which explored the struggles of white working-class communities and was widely seen as offering insight into the social forces behind the rise of Donald Trump.

Despite initially criticising Trump during the 2016 election, Vance later aligned himself closely with the “Make America Great Again” movement.
