UK Arrests 12 Indian Origin People for Illegal Working
The United Kingdom (UK), authorities arrested 12 individuals including Indian nationals for working despite their expired documents.
The BBC reported that all 12 individuals, including one woman, were Indian working in UK and were apprehended by Immigration enforcement in Tipton, West Midlands.
While four individuals have been detained and face possible deportation, the remaining eight have been released on bail.
They are accused of illegal working and breaching visa conditions.
These arrests followed an intelligence report, with the individuals found working at a bedding factory and a cake-making facility.
Under Prime Minister Rishi Sunak’s leadership, the current government has adopted an increasingly harsh stance against illegal migrants, vowing to crack down on illegal workers.
The UK has also raised fines for employers hiring illegal workers from £15,000 to £45,000.
Meanwhile, migrant crossings into the UK have reached a record high in 2024.
According to provisional data from the Home Office, 4,644 individuals arrived across the Channel on small boats, such as inflatable dinghies, up to March 26 this year.
This surpasses previous records, with 3,770 crossings during the same period last year and 4,162 in 2022, the previous record high.
