Monkeypox Case Detected in Pakistan
A new case of monkeypox has been confirmed in Pakistan after two passengers recently arrived from Gulf countries, health officials said on Tuesday.
According to sources, one of the patients — a resident of Attock — tested positive after developing symptoms following his arrival in Islamabad on Friday.
He was initially admitted to PIMS Hospital and later shifted to THQ Hospital Hazro for further treatment. The National Institute of Health (NIH) has confirmed the diagnosis.
Meanwhile, tests of the second passenger from the Gulf returned negative.

What is monkeypox?
Mpox, formerly known as monkeypox, is a rare viral zoonotic disease with symptoms resembling smallpox. The infection begins with fever, chills, headache and muscle pain, followed by a rash that may take weeks to heal.
The virus spreads through close contact — either with infected animals or humans — and can enter the body through broken skin, the respiratory tract or the eyes, nose and mouth. Its incubation period ranges from 5 to 21 days, while the illness generally lasts two to four weeks.
Health experts have urged citizens to exercise caution, avoid unnecessary contact, and seek medical advice if symptoms appear.
