Arif Lohar latest hit “Aa” is not just a catchy tune; it has an interesting backstory linked to a simple incident involving chips.

Released three months ago, the song features a collaboration with rappers Roach Killa and Deep Jandu and has already garnered over 101 million views on YouTube as of April 2024.

Known primarily as a folk singer, Arif Lohar foray into hip-hop in “Aa” showcases his versatility.

Despite his traditional roots, he effortlessly grooves to the hip-hop beat while holding onto his signature chimta.

In a recent interview with BBC, Lohar shared the serendipitous origins of the song.

While rehearsing with his team in London, he casually asked his children to fetch chips from a nearby shop.

Upon their return, he uttered the now-famous line, “Aa tenu chips khwawan” (Come, let’s have chips), without much thought.

It wasn’t until two years later that Lohar’s team reminded him of the spontaneous tune he had created.

Collaborating on the song, they turned it into a global sensation, earning Lohar widespread acclaim.

Despite personal challenges, including the loss of his wife a few years ago, Lohar remains dedicated to his music and his family.

He often takes his three sons, Ali, Amir, and Alam, on tour with him, and they regularly feature in his videos.
