Punjab Government to Launch Dedicated Tourism Police
Punjab government has approved the creation of a dedicated Tourism Police force across the province, in a move to boost tourist safety and improve visitor experiences.
Chief Minister Punjab has ordered the immediate formation of the unit, which will initially operate in major tourist hubs, including Lahore, Murree, Nankana Sahib, Bahawalpur, and Kartarpur.

The Tourism Police will function under the Inspector General (IG) of Punjab Police, with Regional Police Officers (RPOs) and District Police Officers (DPOs) managing operations at the local level.
Officials confirmed that the force will be equipped with advanced tracking systems in patrol vehicles and specialized software to efficiently manage tourist data.
A government spokesperson stated: “The primary goal is to ensure a safe and welcoming environment for tourists while protecting key heritage and recreational sites across Punjab.”
The first phase of deployment will cover high-traffic destinations, with possible expansion based on effectiveness.

The initiative aims to address concerns over tourist safety and streamline assistance for domestic and international visitors.
