Rainfall Forecast During Eid-al-Fitr 2024 Holidays

Rainfall and thunderstorms were forecast across different regions of the country during Eid-al-Fitr 2024 Holidays.

According to Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), a westerly wave is anticipated to enter the upper parts of Pakistan starting from 10th April, followed by another strong westerly wave on 12th April.

This weather system is expected to persist until 15th April, affecting various parts of the country.

Forecast by Region:

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa:

  • Affected Areas: Chitral, Dir, Swat, Abbottabad, Mansehra, Haripur, Kohistan, Shangla, Buner, Malakand, Waziristan, Kohat, Lakki Marwat, Bannu, Dera Ismail Khan, Bajaur, Mohmand, Karak, Khyber, Peshawar, Charsadda, Nowshera, Swabi, Mardan, Kurram.
  • Expected Weather: Rain, windstorms, and thunderstorms from 10th to 15th April with occasional breaks. Isolated heavy falls and hailstorms are also expected from 13th to 15th April.

Gilgit-Baltistan/Kashmir:

  • Affected Areas: Gilgit-Baltistan (Diamir, Astore, Ghizer, Skardu, Hunza, Gilgit, Ghanche, Shigar), Kashmir (Neelum valley, Muzaffarabad, Rawalakot, Poonch, Hattian, Bagh, Haveli, Sudhanoti, Kotli, Bhimber, Mirpur).
  • Expected Weather: Rain, wind, and thunderstorms, with snowfall over high mountains, from 10th to 15th April. Isolated heavy falls and hailstorms are also expected from 13th to 15th April.

Punjab/Islamabad:

  • Affected Areas: Murree, Galliyat, Islamabad/Rawalpindi, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, Sialkot, Narowal, Lahore, Kasur, Okara, Faisalabad, Toba Tek Singh, Jhang, Khushab, Sargodha, Mianwali, Dera Ghazi Khan, Rajanpur, Bhakkar, Layyah, Multan, Pakpattan, Sahiwal, Kot Addu, Muzaffargarh, Rahim Yar Khan, Sadiqabad, Khanpur, Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar.
  • Expected Weather: Rain, wind, and thunderstorms from 10th to 15th April, with occasional breaks. Isolated windstorms/hailstorms are also expected from 13th to 15th April.

Balochistan:

  • Affected Areas: Zhob, Sherani, Barkhan, Musakhel, Kohlu, Sibbi, Jhal Magsi, Loralai, Ziarat, Quetta, Chaman, Pishin, Qila Abdullah, Qila Saifullah, Kalat, Lasbella, Khuzdar, Chagi, Panjgur, Gawadar, Kech.
  • Expected Weather: Rain, wind, and thunderstorms with isolated heavy falls from 12th to 14th April.

Sindh:

  • Affected Areas: Sukkur, Jacobabad, Kashmore, Larkana, Dadu, Qambar Shahdad Kot, Jamshoro, Sanghar, Karachi, Hyderabad.
  • Expected Weather: Rain, wind, and thunderstorms on 13th & 14th April. Isolated rain, wind, and thunderstorms are also expected in Karachi and Hyderabad during the period.

  • Heavy rainfall may lead to flash flooding in specific areas.
  • Landslides are possible in vulnerable locations.
  • Windstorms, hailstorms, and lightning may cause damage to crops and structures.
  • Farmers are advised to manage their crops accordingly.
  • Tourists are advised to avoid unnecessary travel during the wet period.
  • Temperatures are expected to drop during the wet spell.
