CDA reviews progress on major development projects in Islamabad
ISLAMABAD: The Capital Development Authority (CDA) on Wednesday reviewed the progress of key infrastructure projects in the federal capital during a meeting chaired by Chairman CDA and Chief Commissioner Islamabad Muhammad Ali Randhawa.
The meeting, held at CDA Headquarters, was attended by senior officials including CDA Member Administration and Estate Talat Mehmood, Member Engineering Syed Nafasat Raza, Member Finance Tahir Naeem, Member Planning and Design Dr Khalid Hafiz, along with director generals, project directors and other officers.
Officials briefed the meeting on the construction of the Kashmir Chowk Underpass project, informing that the tendering process would be completed soon. The process of appointing consultants for the project is also underway and nearing completion.
Randhawa directed authorities to strictly adhere to timelines for the Kashmir Chowk Underpass project.
The meeting also reviewed the extension of Margalla Avenue from N-5 to M-1 within Islamabad Capital Territory limits. Officials said the tendering process is being finalised and the work award will be issued shortly, with a groundbreaking ceremony expected soon. The project includes construction of one loop and two underpasses.
The chairman directed that both high quality and speed be ensured in execution of the Margalla Avenue extension project.
Detailed discussions were also held on the widening of Attaturk Avenue. Randhawa directed installation of permanent decorative lighting and digital boards along the avenue, along with horticulture and landscaping work. He also ordered the construction of a dedicated cycle track on Attaturk Avenue.
The chairman further directed that Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) be made mandatory for all development projects.
Regarding the Model Graveyard Pandorian project, officials informed the meeting that the design has been finalised. The project includes construction of a boundary wall, spacious parking area, office, ablution area, funeral hall, mosque and provision of electric hearses. Expansion of the access road from Lehtrar Road to the graveyard will also be undertaken.
Randhawa directed that the main internal road of the graveyard be widened and access from Park Road, in addition to Lehtrar Road, be ensured. He also ordered the construction of alternative parking facilities at the site.

During the briefing on the Islamabad Expressway Service Road East project, it was informed that the road will span approximately 9.5 kilometres and the process of appointing a consultant has been initiated.
The CDA chairman directed officials to submit clear timelines for early commencement of construction work on all projects, warning that any delay would not be tolerated.
He emphasised that alongside timely completion, maintaining high standards and quality in all development schemes is imperative. The development of Islamabad’s infrastructure and provision of best facilities to citizens remain top priorities, he added, noting that all available resources are being utilised to achieve these goals.
