CERN Delegation Reviews Pakistan’s Progress as Associate Member
ISLAMABAD: A high-level delegation from the European Organisation for Nuclear Research (CERN) visited Pakistan from August 24 to 28 to assess the country’s progress as an Associate Member of the organisation, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said on Friday.
The five-member delegation of senior CERN experts held meetings with Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission (PAEC) Chairman and toured leading scientific and technological facilities.
Institutions visited included the National Centre for Physics (NCP), Heavy Mechanical Complex-3 (HMC-3), Pakistan Institute of Engineering and Applied Sciences (PIEAS), Pakistan Institute of Nuclear Science and Technology (PINSTECH), Institute of Nuclear Medicine and Oncology (INMOL), and the National Institute for Laser and Optronics (NILOP), among others.

According to the ministry, the visits were aimed at evaluating Pakistan’s contributions in science and technology under its CERN membership.
CERN, established in Geneva on the principle of “Science for Peace”, is the world’s leading particle physics and nuclear research centre. It currently has 25 Member States and nine Associate Members, including Pakistan, which joined in July 2015.
The Foreign Office noted that Pakistan’s collaboration with CERN has advanced scientific knowledge, fostered technological development and provided training opportunities for a new generation of scientists and engineers.
