ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif chaired a meeting of the federal cabinet on Thursday at Parliament House, Islamabad, during which key decisions were taken to align national laws with the recently enacted 27th Constitutional Amendment.

The cabinet approved amendments to the Pakistan Army Act, Pakistan Air Force Act, and Pakistan Navy Act to bring these laws in conformity with the new constitutional provisions. The changes are based on the amendments introduced in Article 243 of the Constitution, which define the structure and tenure of the newly established Chief of Defence Forces.

Under the approved changes, the post of Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee will be abolished upon the retirement of the current incumbent. Additionally, new ranks — Field Marshal, Marshal of the Air Force, and Admiral of the Fleet — have been formally incorporated into the respective service laws.

Officials said these reforms were designed keeping in view modern warfare requirements and the need for a unified, contemporary command structure for Pakistan’s armed forces.
