Fire at Saddar mobile market brought under control

Blaze erupts at Al-Najeebi Electronic Market; several cars damaged, no casualties reported

KARACHI: A fire that broke out on Monday evening at Saddar’s mobile market was brought under control after swift action by rescue and firefighting teams.

According to Rescue 1122 officials, the fire erupted on the seventh floor of Al-Najeebi Electronic Market in the Saddar area and engulfed several cars parked inside the building.

Rescue teams rushed to the site, extinguished the flames, and evacuated people trapped inside the building, preventing the fire from spreading further.

Karachi Mayor, in a post on X, said the situation was under control and confirmed that KMC fire tenders, including a snorkel, were present at the scene to manage the operation.

Following the mobile market incident, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah contacted the Karachi mayor, commissioner, and inspector general of police to review the situation.

The chief minister directed authorities to prioritise saving lives and ensure the immediate evacuation of anyone trapped inside the building.

“Under all circumstances, human life must be saved before property,” he said.

He also instructed the police to manage the crowd to facilitate firefighting efforts and directed the Karachi Water and Sewerage Board to ensure uninterrupted water supply.

The chief minister emphasised that municipal authorities, administration, and police must work in coordination to ensure a smooth and effective rescue operation.
