FJMU student dies after falling from third-floor hostel in Lahore
LAHORE: A female student who reportedly fell from the third floor of a hostel at Fatima Jinnah Medical University (FJMU) has succumbed to her injuries, Superintendent of Police (SP) Civil Lines confirmed on Tuesday. Authorities have launched an investigation to determine whether the incident was a case of suicide or an accident.
The victim, an MBBS final-year student from Azad Kashmir, was critically injured after the fall. The incident prompted an immediate response from the university administration.
According to the college administration, the student was taking a routine stroll on the hostel rooftop when she suddenly felt dizzy and fell over the boundary wall, landing on the concrete floor below.
She was rushed to Sir Ganga Ram Hospital’s emergency department without delay. The university registrar said treatment was initiated as soon as the administration was informed of the incident.
Police stated that all possibilities are being explored, including whether the student fell accidentally, was pushed, or attempted suicide.

To determine the circumstances of the fall, the university has formed a fact-finding committee directed to submit its report within 24 hours. Relevant authorities have also been formally informed.
A medical board was constituted immediately after the incident to assess the student’s condition, while senior college and university officials personally monitored developments.
The incident comes amid growing concern over similar cases. In early January, another female student suffered critical injuries after jumping from the second floor of a private university in Lahore, which authorities said was her second suicide attempt within two weeks.
It is also notable that a student from the same institution died by suicide after jumping from the fourth floor in December 2025. Police in that case revealed the student had called her family shortly before the incident, and efforts were made to obtain details of her last phone conversation.
