Foreign Awards for Top Pakistani Military Officials On the Cards
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has requested the federal cabinet to approve the acceptance of foreign awards conferred upon top Pakistani military officials and a diplomat by foreign governments.
According to sources, the ministry has forwarded a summary to the cabinet for the acceptance of foreign awards for three Pakistani citizens, including:
- General Sahir Shamshad, who was awarded the “Order of Al Kawkab Al Urdani 1st Grade Jordan” by the Government of Jordan during his visit in December 2023.
- General (Retd) Ashfaq Pervaiz Kayani, who was conferred the “Grand Cross of Mill Merit Medal” by the Spanish government during his visit to Spain in 2011.
- Arif Masood, who is set to receive the “Order of Sacred Treasure, Silver Rays” medal in recognition of his 40 years of dedicated service to the Embassy of Japan in Pakistan.
As per Article 259 of the Constitution of Pakistan, acceptance of foreign awards by Pakistani citizens is subject to government approval.

The federal cabinet’s approval is therefore necessary for these awards to be formally accepted.
