Indonesia’s president Subianto receives red-carpet welcome in Islamabad

Prabowo Subianto begins two-day visit to bolster Pakistan-Indonesia ties

Indonesia’s President Prabowo Subianto arrived in Islamabad on Monday to a red-carpet welcome as he began a two-day official visit from December 8 to 9.

President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif received the Indonesian leader at Nur Khan Airbase, where he landed with a high-level delegation comprising key ministers and senior officials.

According to the Foreign Office, President Subianto will hold delegation-level talks with Prime Minister Shehbaz during his stay. He is also scheduled to meet President Zardari and Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Asim Munir.

The discussions will focus on expanding cooperation across a broad range of sectors, including trade, investment, defence, health, information technology, climate, education and culture. Both sides will also review opportunities to strengthen collaboration at regional and global levels.

The FO said several Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) are expected to be signed during the visit.

Pakistan and Indonesia, the statement added, share close and longstanding ties built on common values and mutual interests. President Subianto’s visit is expected to further deepen the relationship and broaden avenues of mutually beneficial cooperation.
