ISLAMABAD: Authorities in the federal capital have intensified crackdown against vehicles without M-Tags, with strict enforcement continuing at multiple checkpoints across Islamabad following the expiry of the registration deadline.

Officials said M-Tag readers are fully operational at key entry and exit points of the city to identify vehicles lacking valid tags. Vehicles found without M-Tags are being stopped as part of the ongoing crackdown, according to the Director General Excise.

To facilitate motorists, M-Tag installation is underway at 17 designated booth locations across the capital. Officials confirmed that a total of 166,888 vehicles have been issued M-Tags so far, while 3,130 vehicles were registered in the last 24 hours alone.

DG Excise Bilal Azam said round-the-clock services are being provided at M-Tag centers located at 26 Number Chungi and 18 Mile. He added that additional counters at Kachnar Park and F-9 Park are operating until midnight to ease public inconvenience.

Authorities have urged citizens to obtain M-Tags at the earliest to avoid fines or legal action, warning that no exemptions will be granted. The operation is being carried out in coordination with the Safe City Authority, traffic police and district administration to ensure smooth enforcement.

Officials said the M-Tag system was introduced to modernize traffic management, improve toll collection and reduce congestion at toll plazas. The registration process requires a vehicle registration document and the owner’s CNIC, with tags issued immediately after verification.

Authorities maintained that timely compliance will help streamline traffic flow and improve overall road safety in Islamabad.
