Militant Attack in Sherani: Policeman Martyred, Two Levies Injured
QUETTA: A policeman was martyred and two Levies personnel were injured when militants attacked police and Levies stations in Sherani district of Balochistan late Tuesday night.
According to Levies officials, more than 15 assailants armed with light and heavy weapons stormed Mir Ali Khel, the district headquarters bordering Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The attackers simultaneously targeted the Levies station and a nearby police station, triggering heavy gunfire.
Sherani Deputy Commissioner Hazrat Wali Kakar confirmed the incident, saying police and Levies personnel retaliated but Constable Altaf, who was posted on the rooftop of the police station, embraced martyrdom. Levies sepoys Kalu Khan and Wahid Khan sustained injuries and were shifted to Zhob Civil Hospital.
During the attack, the assailants set fire to the Levies station and a vehicle parked inside. The exchange of fire continued for more than half an hour before the militants fled.
Levies officials reported that sepoy Azam Khan went missing during the clash and is feared to have been abducted. A search operation has been launched with reinforcements from police, Levies and the Anti-Terrorism Force (ATF) rushed from Zhob.
Security authorities suspect the involvement of the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), though no group has claimed responsibility so far.

Sherani, one of the northernmost districts of Balochistan, shares a border with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and has witnessed sporadic militant activity in recent years. Officials said the latest attack highlights the growing security challenges in the region, where security personnel, installations, and civilians remain vulnerable.
Funeral prayers for Constable Altaf will be held in his native village after official honours, while search teams continue combing the area for the missing Levies sepoy.
