Pakistan on Friday expressed grave concern over the recent wave of arbitrary arrests and detentions of Kashmiri civilians in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) following a bomb blast in New Delhi.

Responding to media queries, Foreign Office spokesperson Tahir Hussain Andrabi said the actions of Indian authorities once again exposed the ongoing and serious human rights violations in the occupied territory. He stated that the prevailing situation, marked by widespread detentions, indiscriminate arrests, and strict curbs on fundamental freedoms, amounted to collective punishment of the Kashmiri population.

He voiced deep concern over reports that Kashmiri youth were being profiled solely on the basis of their identity and faith. He added that India was continuing efforts to alter the demographic structure of the occupied region and undermine the religious, cultural, and social identity of the Kashmiri people as part of a deliberate strategy to suppress their legitimate political aspirations.

The spokesperson pointed out that thousands of Kashmiri youth remained missing, while many genuine political representatives were still imprisoned. He said such coercive measures could not weaken the resolve of the Kashmiri people to achieve their internationally recognized right to self-determination.

He further stated that Pakistan had urged the international community, including the United Nations, the Human Rights Council, and the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, to take full notice of the grave and persistent rights abuses in IIOJK.

He called on these bodies to press India to take immediate corrective steps, ensure accountability for documented violations, and allow credible international human rights organizations unhindered access to conduct independent and impartial assessments.

The spokesperson reiterated that a just and peaceful settlement of the Jammu and Kashmir dispute, in accordance with United Nations Security Council resolutions and the aspirations of the Kashmiri people, remained essential for durable peace and stability in South Asia.
