Pakistan’s military spokesperson has reiterated the country’s commitment to peace, dismissing accusations of violence after recent clashes with India along the disputed Kashmir border.

Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Director General Lt Gen Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry stated that Pakistan is “not a violent nation” but a “serious” one, with peace as its top priority.

His remarks came in an interview with RT Arabic, as reported by PTV News, following a fragile ceasefire brokered with U.S. mediation after weeks of heightened military tensions.

The DG ISPR revealed that India had requested the ceasefire, though it remains unclear whether the appeal was made directly to Pakistan or through the U.S.

“We desire peace and stability, so we said, why not?” he said.

Tensions flared last month after India accused Pakistan—without evidence—of involvement in an attack in occupied Kashmir’s Pahalgam.

Pakistan denied the allegations and demanded an impartial investigation.

The dispute escalated into cross-border airstrikes, with Pakistan downing five Indian jets in retaliation for strikes that killed over 30 civilians in Punjab and Azad Kashmir.

On May 9-10, India launched further missile attacks, prompting Pakistan’s Operation Bunyanum Marsoos, which targeted only military installations.

“Not a single civilian was harmed; it was an appropriate, just, and balanced response,” Lt Gen Chaudhry emphasized.

The military spokesperson accused India of sponsoring terrorism in Pakistan, including supporting banned groups like the Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).

“India is hiding behind a false narrative to conceal the truth,” he said, criticizing New Delhi for rejecting a neutral probe into the Pahalgam incident.

Lt Gen Chaudhry reaffirmed the armed forces’ resolve to defend Pakistan’s sovereignty, stating, “The nation and military stood united like an unbreakable wall.”

The ceasefire remains in effect, but underlying tensions persist as both sides maintain military readiness along the contested border.
