Pakistan, Tajikistan reaffirm resolve to strengthen defence, economic and regional connectivity ties
Islamabad: Tajikistan Minister of Defence, Colonel General Sherali Mirzo (Saburzoda Imomali Abdurahim), called on President Asif Ali Zardari at Aiwan-e-Sadr, where both sides reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation across defence, economy, energy and regional connectivity.
President Asif Ali Zardari said Pakistan is keen to further enhance economic and defence ties with Tajikistan, noting that relations between the two countries are rooted in mutual respect, shared cultural heritage and long-standing cooperation. He emphasized the importance of expanding political, economic, cultural and people-to-people exchanges.
The President highlighted the vast potential for increasing bilateral trade, describing Tajikistan as the “gateway to Central Asia” and Pakistan as Tajikistan’s shortest route to the sea. He reaffirmed Pakistan’s firm commitment to the timely completion of the CASA-1000 energy project, which he said would significantly boost regional energy connectivity.

The two sides also discussed opportunities for cooperation in education, energy, investment and regional stability. President Zardari noted that continuous engagement between senior defence leadership of both countries has given a new impetus to defence cooperation.
The Tajik delegation included Ambassador Yusuf Sharifzoda, Colonel Karim Abdulrasool, Major General Zarif Younusi Hakimzada and Major General Aminullah Amanullahzada.
Senator Sherry Rehman and Senator Saleem Mandviwalla were also present during the meeting.
President Zardari stressed that both Pakistan and Tajikistan play a pivotal role in promoting peace, stability and regional connectivity, reaffirming Pakistan’s desire to deepen its partnership with Tajikistan in all areas.
