ISLAMABAD: A Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) flight was forced to make an emergency landing in Saudi Arabia on Saturday after developing a technical issue mid-air.

According to sources, flight PK-860 was travelling from Jeddah to Lahore with more than 350 passengers on board when the crew reported a technical fault during the journey. The pilot immediately contacted air traffic control and sought permission for an emergency landing.

Following the request, the aircraft was diverted to Dammam, where it landed safely. As a precautionary measure, oxygen masks were deployed inside the cabin during the emergency landing.

PIA confirmed that all passengers and crew members remained safe and no injuries were reported. The airline said a detailed investigation into the technical issue is currently under way.

This is not the first such incident involving the national carrier in recent months. On January 16, 2025, another PIA flight, PK-244, travelling from Dammam to Lahore, was also forced to make an emergency landing shortly after takeoff due to a technical problem in its communication system.

In that incident as well, the pilot contacted air traffic control and safely returned the aircraft to Dammam International Airport.
