The prime minister has approved the Monsoon 2026 Strategic Plan prepared by the Ministry of Climate Change, according to official documents.

The plan has been divided into three phases based on impact and implementable actions — short-term, medium-term and long-term.

Under the short-term plan, authorities aim to repair infrastructure damaged in the last monsoon season within 240 days. The document states that all drainage canals and flood gates will be restored, while drainage systems in urban areas that were damaged or blocked will be fixed in advance to prevent flooding.

In the medium term, spanning one to three years, existing infrastructure will be improved and expanded to strengthen flood management capacity.

In the long term, over a period of four to five years, new climate-resilient infrastructure will be constructed to reduce future climate risks.

The ministry has categorized all measures under short, medium and long-term frameworks and said flood mitigation steps will be organized into different working groups. It added that the construction of climate-resilient infrastructure will help reduce the impact of future weather-related threats.

The document stated that all these measures will be implemented across the country in consultation and coordination with the provinces.
